Background
Dr Sophie Weatherhead has been a Consultant Dermatologist since 2011 and works in the NHS in Newcastle Hospitals Foundation Trust. She graduated from St Bartholomew's hospital in London and completed her training in Newcastle. She earned a PhD from Newcastle university, and her research has focused on psoriasis, skin lymphoma (CTCL) and phototherapy.
Dr Weatherhead's senior leadership roles include being current president of the British Photodermatology Group and she is the regional lead for photodiagnostics, where she undertakes investigations and treatment for sunlight sensitivity problems. She has contributed to several British Association of Dermatologists treatment guidelines and has written numerous patents information leaflets for the British Association of Dermatologists.
She has been the dermatology representative for the Northeast at the British Association of Dermatologists between 2023 and 2026, helping to improve NHS services locally and nationally, and has previously been an associate editor of an international dermatology journal.

Her specialist interests include inflammatory and complex skin problems including psoriasis, eczema, skin allergies, vitiligo, sunlight-induced reactions and skin lymphoma.
