This patient attended our Guiseley clinic for surgical excision of a longstanding lesion present since birth, with gradual enlargement over time. The procedure was carried out by Mr Andrew Williams.
“I decided to have my birthmark removed as cancer runs in my family. I have seen what is it like and I didn’t want to risk putting myself in that position if there was a way around it.
Before I got to the clinic, I was extremely anxious. I was trembling the whole journey and my heart was pounding.
Recovery was tricky for me personally as I tend to smile a lot, because of the location of the stitches I couldn’t really smile and personally for the first few days I found it tricky to eat, however it was more just waiting it out.
After the stitches came out it felt a lot easier. At first I just cleaned it with water and then I used gentle face wipes and now I can wash my face normally.
I feel more comfortable and confident now. I can do things I couldn’t do before such as a full sheet face mask. It’s also made it easier in the sense I don’t have to trim it anymore.
If you have absolutely any questions or concerns let the staff know. They’re lovely, sweet, kind and very funny. You may feel nervous before you get there, but if you let them know they’ll help you feel more at ease.
The only part that hurt was the anaesthetic. It felt like a deep pain and then the anaesthetic spread which felt very bizarre. If you tend to have reactions to anaesthetic or injections let them know.
During the actual surgery I didn’t even know when it was removed till I was told I was getting stitches. I felt very at ease and overall it was a lovely experience.
Both people involved in the surgery were so kind and they genuinely made me feel so at ease. I’m very grateful for what they did and they’re amazing at their jobs.”
