Skin Tag Removal in Leeds
Skin tags are growths that hang from the skin. They are commonly found on the neck and face, and in skin folds such as the armpits and groin.
While not dangerous, they frequently cause itching, irritation and bleeding, especially when caught by clothing, glasses or jewellery.
Our surgical team remove skin tags through a short procedure carried out in one of our Minor Operating Suites.
What are my options?
The three options for skin tag removal at the Skin Surgery Clinic are removal by laser, by surgical excision and by Hyfrecator (cauterising blade).
Skin tag removal via Hyfrecator is often the preferred method of removal. The procedure is relatively pain free, quick and simple and because the Hyfrecator cauterises the skin tag there is also no bleeding. The treatment itself will last approximately 15 minutes, but it could be longer depending on the number of skin tags to be removed. The cost of the removal of one skin tag by the Hyfrecator is £255, the cost for the removal of additional skin tags on the same day is £70 (If you have a large number of skin tags the price will be discussed during your consultation).
Laser skin tag removal is used when the skin tag does not have a visible stalk. It is still a relatively pain free treatment, but the recovery time post treatment is slightly longer than if the Hyfrecator is used. As with the Hyfrecator, there is only a minimal chance of scarring when the aftercare advice is followed. The cost of the removal of one skin tag by laser is £375, the cost for the removal of additional skin tags on the same day is £95 (If you have a large number of skin tags the price will be discussed during your consultation).
Surgical excision is a brief procedure where the skin tag is removed by a surgeon before stitching the wound. For some skin tags this is necessary to get a complete removal.

What are Skin Tags?
A skin tag looks like a small piece of soft hanging tissue and can be clear or pigmented. Skin tags are generally benign, non cancerous small tumours of the skin which cause no symptoms.
Skin tags can appear on any part of your body, but are most common in the following areas: eyelids, armpits, under the breasts, groin, upper chest and neck. Often they catch on clothing and can become inflamed and irritable.
What is included in the Free Consultation?
Your free consultation will be with one of our Surgical Nurses. During the consultation, they will assess your skin tag and decide whether it is suitable for treatment and what type of treatment would be most beneficial. On the day of your procedure, you will also be assessed by the Doctor; this is included in the overall cost of the treatment.
What is included in the cost of the procedure?
- Initial consultation with one of our Surgical Nurses. This can be carried out in the clinic or over the telephone (after submitting an Online Consultation - ideal for patients travelling from a distance or for those who have limited time available).
- Consultation with the Consultant / Doctor on the day of the procedure
- The procedure itself
- Post procedure care pack
- Optional 2 week review appointment with one of our Clinical Nurses (usually not required, but please do ask if you would like an additional review appointment.)
Am I at risk?
A fully qualified Consultant / Doctor will carefully examine your skin tag(s) before any treatment commences and also check your medical background. If there is any doubt, you will be referred back to your GP.
How will my Skin Tag be removed?
The two main options for skin tag removal at the Skin Surgery Clinic are removal by laser and by Hyfrecator (cauterising blade).
The Hyfrecator uses a cauterising blade to cut away the skin tag. The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort. You will be given advice on how to care for the area post treatment.
We also use the CO2RE laser for skin tag removal. The treatment is carried out with an injection of local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort. The laser ablates the skin tag and the treated area will appear red after treatment. You will be given advice on how to care for the area post treatment.
