Seborrhoeic Keratosis Removal in Newcastle

A seborrhoeic keratosis - also known as a seborrhoeic wart - is a very common skin condition. They are flat, brown lesions which tend to grow larger and darker over time.

While they aren't dangerous, they are unsightly and often cause irritation, itching and bleeding. This most often happens when they are on a part of the body that is touched often, for example by hands, clothing or spectacles.

What are my options for Seborrhoeic Keratosis / Wart removal?

The two main options for seborrhoeic keratosis removal at the Skin Surgery Clinic are laser and surgical excision.

Laser seborrhoeic keratosis removal is the preferred option as it causes very little discomfort for the patient and the chance of scarring is minimal. The treatment itself will only last around 15 minutes for the removal of one seborrhoeic keratosis. The cost for the removal of one seborrhoeic keratosis by laser is £375, for the removal of additional seborrhoeic keratosis on the same day a price will be confirmed in your consultation.

Surgical excision for seborrhoeic keratosis removal is another commonly successful form of removal, however it will leave a small scar after the operation. The treatment will last roughly 30 minutes and post treatment there may be some discomfort while your skin is healing. If a seborrhoeic keratosis needs to be sent away for histology this is the only method of removal available to you. The cost for the removal of one seborrhoeic keratosis via surgical excision starts from £425.

What is a Seborrhoeic Keratosis?

A seborrhoeic keratosis or seborrhoeic wart is a very common skin lesion. They generally have a flat but wart-like surface and typically look like they are stuck on to the skin. At the start they are skin coloured and barely noticeable but with time they become gradually more visible and darker in colour.

What is included in the Free Consultation?

Your free consultation will be with one of our Surgical Nurses. During the consultation, they will assess your Seborrhoeic Keratosis and decide whether it is suitable for treatment and what type of treatment would be most beneficial. Most free consultations are carried out digitally via an Online Consultation.

On the day of your procedure, you will also be assessed by the Doctor; this is included in the overall cost of the treatment. If you would like to have an additional consultation with a Doctor or Surgeon prior to the day of the procedure, this costs £195.

What is included in the cost of the procedure?

Am I at risk?

The short answer is no. Before any treatment takes place you will be assessed by the treating Consultant / Doctor. If there is any doubt you will be referred back to your GP. We also offer a histology service at a cost of £125.

How will my Seborrhoeic Keratosis be removed?

As mentioned there are two methods of seborrhoeic keratosis removal at the Skin Surgery Clinic. We use the C02RE laser for laser seborrhoeic keratosis removal. The treatment is carried out with an injection of local anesthetic to reduce the discomfort, the laser ablates the seborrhoeic keratosis and the treated area will appear red after treatment.

Our other method of seborrhoeic keratosis removal is surgical excision. This treatment is once again carried out under local anesthetic to reduce discomfort. The Doctor will use a scalpel to excise the seborrhoeic keratosis, this will leave a small linear scar roughly the size of the seborrhoeic keratosis being removed. The wound will be stitched and a dressing applied.

How long does recovery take?

Recovery times vary from patient to patient and depend on a number of factors, including the patient's age and whereabouts on the body the seborrhoeic keratosis is.

Typical recovery times for seborrhoeic keratosis removal by laser are around 7-10 days on the face and 10-14 days or occasionally longer on the body.
